At 13, Anike, a young Nigerian girl from a small provincial town, already has a full life: she roams the town at dawn selling ekos; she perseveres in her studies despite her difficulties with arithmetic; and she's training as a seamstress with her aunt. Her future seems set. One day, the arrival of a mysterious guest at school opens her eyes. For the first time in her young life, Anike can dare to choose her own path and seize her freedom.

Haingo, a dancer from southern Madagascar, is the youngest daughter in a close-knit family led by her charismatic patriarch, Remanindry. This musician is best known for his uniquely resonant fiddle pieces. But this traditional instrument, the family's emblem, doesn't appeal to Haingo, who needs to earn a living for her four-year-old daughter. She decides to try her luck with a dance company in Antananarivo, the capital, on the other side of the country.

Following a breakdown, 35-year-old Pauline is hospitalized for several months in a psychiatric clinic. The Attraction of the Stars tells the story of her first leave alone with her 7-year-old son, Arthur, outside the clinic. Over the course of a weekend, among the ponds and woods, Pauline will have to overcome her anxieties and help her son calm his own in order to become a mother again…
